What’s the story?

Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ronda Rousey is likely to win the Women’s Royal Rumble Match.

Additionally, Meltzer noted that although Rousey winning the Royal Rumble makes the most sense, the possible outcome is being kept under wraps, unbeknownst to most in the WWE.

In case you didn’t know…

‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Women’s MMA, however, since her back-to-back losses inside the UFC’s famed Octagon, combat sports and sports-entertainment experts believe that she’s all set to transition to a career in professional wrestling.

Rousey, self-admittedly, is a huge pro-wrestling and WWE fan, and has previously appeared on WWE programming—prominently featuring in a segment alongside The Rock, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at Wrestlemania 31.

The heart of the matter

Veteran professional wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer asserted that most people in the WWE don’t know about the company’s plans for Ronda Rousey at the Royal Rumble.

Nevertheless, several people have hinted at Rousey likely partaking in and winning the Women’s Royal Rumble Match. In fact, many backstage in the WWE have a strong feeling that Rousey will be in the ‘Rumble and win the match because it makes the most sense for her to win.

Furthermore, Meltzer explained that the reason behind Asuka being booked in the Royal Rumble Match, and not in a RAW Women’s Championship Match against Alexa Bliss at the event, is because the former has already defeated Bliss and their matchup wasn’t particularly well-received by the fans. Besides, should Asuka win the Royal Rumble instead of Rousey, a match between the Japanese Superstar and Bliss would be lost in the shuffle at Wrestlemania 34.

What’s next?

The first-ever All-Women’s Royal Rumble Match takes place at the Royal Rumble PPV, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 28th.

Fans can expect Ronda Rousey to win the match and earn a world title shot, likely facing Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 34.

Author’s take

Ronda Rousey is a phenomenal athlete and great MMA fighter.

Nevertheless, being a professional wrestler/sports-entertainer comes with its own set of challenges, and Rousey needs to be given an adequate amount of time to adjust to said challenges. Do you feel Rousey winning the ‘Rumble is ‘best for business’? Sound off in the comments!
