From the WWE Rumor Mill: NXT's Montez Ford sidelined with mouth injury

Montez Ford was ruled out with a bizarre injury

What's the story?

It was reported earlier that Bobby Fish was reportedly injured at an NXT live event last night, but another NXT star was left unable to compete over the weekend, too.

After wrestling on Friday, one-half of the Street Profits, Montez Ford, was left was unable to compete at Saturday and Sunday's live events - seemingly due to a mouth-related injury.

In case you didn't know...

Montez Ford, real name Kenneth Crawford, joined WWE in April 2015 after an impressive tryout. After a few sporadic singles appearances, Crawford's big break came in when, after returning from an injury, he was teamed with Angelo Dawkins and renamed Montez Ford, forming The Street Profits.

The Street Profits have been a mainstay of NXT's tag team division over the past six months and Ford is engaged to another NXT Superstar, Bianca Belair, who also seemingly suffered a bizarre injury last week.

The heart of the matter

After wrestling on Friday, Montez Ford was unable to compete at Saturday and Sunday's NXT live events due to a mouth-related injury.

According to Dave Meltzer, Ford's oral injury may actually be a tooth issue. It's unclear whether Ford suffered the injury during a match.

At Friday's show in Cleveland, Ohio, Ford and Angelo Dawkins lost to NXT Tag Team Champions Bobby Fish, who was reportedly injured last night, and Kyle O'Reilly.

At Saturday's show in Royal Oak, Michigan, Montez Ford was at ringside for Dawkins' victory over Cezar Bononi and again at yesterday's show in Indianapolis, Indiana, when Dawkins competed in a losing effort against Velveteen Dream.

What's next?

Montez Ford's injury is not believed to be too serious, so there's a good chance we may see him competing again soon.

We'll keep you updated on this one.

Author's take

While it's never nice to see any wrestler suffer an injury, this has to be one of the more bizarre ones we've seen recently. Hopefully, it isn't too serious and we see Montez Ford back in the ring too. NXT's tag team division is pretty stacked, but the Street Profits have really found their way and set the division on fire. I think we may see some main roster call-ups soon, which may put the Street Profits firmly at the top of the NXT tag team division this year.
