From the WWE Rumor Mill: Possible spoiler on the Reigns-Lesnar match at the Greatest Royal Rumble

It may be the Big Dog's night soon!
It may be the Big Dog's night soon!

What's the story?

According to rumours fuelled by Wade Keller and Jeremy Botter, and reported by Cageside Seats, the idea for the extension of Brock Lesnar's deal came from the fact that Roman Reigns was not getting over at WrestleMania. The plan is for him to win the rematch at Saudi Arabia.

Reigns faces off with Lesnar for the Universal Championship at the Greatest Royal Rumble. No kayfabe reason was given why Reigns got a rematch after losing cleanly at WrestleMania 34.

In case you didn't know...

WWE put on a show for the ages at WrestleMania 34. The biggest talking point coming out of the pay-per-view was the surprise win by Brock Lesnar over Roman Reigns.

It was almost universally believed that Reigns would defeat Lesnar at WrestleMania. However, Reigns would kick out of multiple F5s only to succumb to Lesnar at the end of the big match.

The heart of the matter

From the very start of the match, it was clear that fans were not into the contest to determine the Universal Champion. On one hand, there was a part-time champion and on the other, a guy that they believe has been pushed down our throats.

Based on the highly negative reception for the match from the WWE Universe, the idea eventually became for Roman Reigns to win in front of an audience that would be more receptive to WWE's current face. Lesnar agreed to sign a contract and drop his championship in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

What's next?

The Greatest Royal Rumble will be an event for the ages. All of the top stars in WWE will be in attendance to put on a show to remember. As will Reigns and Lesnar.

Author's take

This is one confusing storyline and I'm not even convinced that this is the eventual payoff. Why Reigns would get a rematch after winning the WrestleMania match is confusing.

One can only hope WWE knows what they're doing and they have a concrete plan!
