What's the story?

The Authors of Pain lost their NXT Tag-Team Championships at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III and since then fans have been expecting the duo to make their bow on the main roster. Despite repeated rumours circulating, their main roster debut hasn't happened yet and we may now know why.

In case you didn't know...

Authors of Pain made their NXT debut at NXT TakeOver: The End where they destroyed American Alpha. They soon defeated Alpha for the NXT Tag-Team Championships which they held until NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

After the defeat to SAniTy, it was widely expected that AOP would debut on the main-roster.

The heart of the matter

According to AllWrestlingNews, the reason the Authors of Pain haven't been called up et is because officials backstage don't want them to end up like The Ascension, who went from NXT's top tag-team to perennial losers on the main-roster.

Officials are holding off on calling the Authors up until there is a substantial creative plan in place foe them after their debut.

What's next?

It still looks likely that the Authors will make their main-roster bow sooner rather than later. The only question seems to be 'when'.

Author's take

WWE have made a good decision to hold on AOP's main-roster debut. A delay is better than a debut without a plan, a good example of which is what happened to The Ascension.

The Authors are very young and look set to be a dominant force in WWE for years to come so a delay of a few months is nothing in the grand scheme of things.
