What's the story?

Rich Swann and WWE recently parted ways agreeing to a mutual release. Since then Swann has kept himself busy with several independent dates, as well as recent rumours suggesting he might have a part to play in Lucha Underground.

In case you didn't know...

Rich Swann was just on the cusp of a push in the Cruiserweight Division after earning a title shot against then-champion (and also now ex-WWE Superstar) Enzo Amore. However, reports of domestic abuse allegations were raised against him and he was swiftly suspended until further notice.

Swann was eventually cleared of the charges raised again him, with many expecting him to return to the WWE afterwards. However, it was then announced that Swann and WWE had agreed to a mutual release for the Superstar.

The heart of the matter

Rich Swann has been doing the rounds on the independent circuit with appearances scheduled for House of Hardcore and Mexican promotion Crash. At the moment it seems like Swann has yet to commit to a full-time role for any of the bigger promotions like Ring of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling.

That being said, reports have surfaced that Swann was spotted backstage during the recent Lucha Underground tapings that also saw another former WWE star wrestling in a dark match.

We have been unable to confirm this report so at the moment we urge everyone to treat it with a rather large grain of salt until further confirmation is provided. However, the prospect of Swann at LU is surely an exciting one given that this high-flying style seems like a great fit. One Twitter user even commented that he could be replacing Ricochet as Prince Puma (as a joke)

What's next?

We'll have to wait and see if any further news circulates about Swann being backstage, why he might be there and if he actually wrestles at the show. Lucha Underground are fairly tight-lipped about their taping spoilers making their audience sign non-disclosure agreements so we might even have to wait until the episodes air.

Author's take

Swann is somewhat of a divisive figure as a result of the allegations made against him, but he hasn't been convicted of anything so for all intensive purposes is an innocent man. I also did like him in WWE and thought he was a great wrestler so if he is indeed joining LU then I wish him all the best.
