What’s the story?

Roman Reigns’ has been cleared to return to the ring and will be added to the Survivor Series card, according to a report from PWInsider. The former WWE Champion is expected to be involved in a match between The Shield and The New Day.

In case you didn’t know...

Reigns was originally expected to compete against The Miz, Braun Strowman, Kane, Cesaro & Sheamus at the TLC pay-per-view but was pulled from the show due to a viral infection.

Reigns was replaced by Kurt Angle at TLC and has continually been replaced with other wrestlers during live events.

The heart of the matter

With Reigns cleared to compete, it's expected that a six-man tag team match will be announced between The Shield and The New Day.

The seeds were planted for the Shield versus New Day match on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw when The New Day faked a second SmackDown Invasion and cost Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins the Raw Tag Team Championships.

The members of The Shield and The New Day have been interacting with each other in various tag team matches since 2015 but have never faced each other as collective units.

The last time the members of The Shield faced The New Day was the December 13, 2016, edition of Raw when The New Day defended their Raw Tag Team Championships against Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns and the team of Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens.

What’s next?

With the reports indicating the Reigns is cleared to perform at Survivor Series, the announcement of the New Day versus The Shield is expected to occur on next week’s episode of Raw.

This match was teased in 2016 for the Tribute to the Troops episode and the interest was high back then, so the excitement for The Shield’s first match back at a major pay-per-view against another highly accomplished faction could have fans sitting on the edge of their seats.

Author’s take

The Shield versus The New Day will more than likely be the match of the night and will continue the WWE's hot streak of putting on great tag team bouts.
