From the WWE Rumor Mill: Roman Reigns not under investigation for steroid scandal link

Roman Reigns' steroid scandal story might be over
Roman Reigns' steroid scandal story might be over

What's the story?

Roman Reigns was recently named as a client for an illegal steroid distribution ring, causing quite the murmur in the wrestling world. However, The Sportser has reported that there are no plans to investigate the current Intercontinental Champion over this alleged link, meaning that the scandal is probably over before it's started.

In case you didn't know...

Richard Rodriquez, a former gym owner, who is currently in prison for being at the centre of an illegal steroid distribution ring, was for whatever reason, allowed to conduct an interview from behind bars. During this interview he named several high profile celebrities as former clients of his, including Mark Wahlberg and, of course, Roman Reigns.

The heart of the matter

These are serious claims for someone like Reigns, as the WWE has a zero tolerance policy for steroid use under its Wellness Policy, which means if the link can be proven, Roman will probably lose his job.

Because this started making mainstream news, WWE and Roman Reigns were forced to issue a statement on the matter, which is below

"I have never heard of Richard Rodriguez or Wellness Fitness Nutrition. I learned from the mistake I made nearly two years ago and paid the penalty for it. Since then, I've passed 11 tests as part of WWE's independent drug testing program."

And for now at least, it seems that it is true, as TMZ have released information stating that several sources within the DEA have no intent to start investigating Reigns for this alleged scandal, as they do not focus on end users but instead work to put sellers, distributors and manufacturers behind bars.

What's next?

With the above statement from the DEA, this seems to be the end of the matter as far as Roman Reigns is concerned. He has issued his statement saying he's never met the guy, and the DEA don't go after end users. Plus, the WWE have no reason to start digging into it. There will be an issue only if someone else can prove that Reigns was a customer.

Author's take

People are always very happy to link steroid use to wrestling and stand back and watch the chaos that ensues. I'm glad that this allegation from a criminal actually in jail doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
