From the WWE Rumor Mill: The Hype Bros to split up after Zack Ryder's return

The Hype Bros were once the #1 contenders to the SmackDown Tag titles

What’s the story?

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley aren’t expected to reunite once Ryder returns from injury.

In case you didn’t know...

Zack Ryder suffered an injury in December 2016 on an episode of SmackDown Live. He blew his knee as he won a battle royal making the Hype Bros the #1 contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team titles. The injury prevented the match from happening and American Alpha became the beneficiaries, winning the titles at the end of the year instead.

Ryder’s career has gone through more downs than ups, but through it all, he’s garnered a loyal fan base who appreciate his passion and dedication to WWE. He is still rehabbing the knee injury but is now back in the Performance Center to train to get back in the ring.

His tag team partner Mojo Rawley in the meanwhile has been having a good singles run. He won the 4th Annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33.

The heart of the matter

Meltzer said that the reason why the Hype Bros won’t be reunited is because they want to try to get Mojo Rawley over as a singles star. Zack Ryder is still expected to compete in the SmackDown Live brand.

It would definitely be an interesting scenario to see on SmackDown Live, as Ryder is more well-known amongst the WWE Universe. Whenever he has been given a brief opportunity, the crowd has always responded well to him.

Mojo as a singles star still needs time to build, as he doesn’t have too much momentum behind him right now.

What’s next?

Zack Ryder will be working hard to get back from injury while Mojo will continue his singles run on SmackDown Live.

Author’s take

Zack Ryder is a talented Superstar who resonates with the fans because he comes across as the common man. His determination and will throughout the years despite having the rug pulled from underneath him constantly is undoubtedly admirable.

With SmackDown Live being the land of opportunity, we hope the Long Island Iced-Z gets his just due on the blue brand and can achieve many things. Even if he is not to be a top guy, a solid upper midcard push for Ryder would be well deserving.
