According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ember Moon is expected to be out of action for 4-5 more weeks.
In case you didn’t know...
Ember Moon was originally scheduled to be a part of NXT Takeover: Chicago in a Fatal-4-Way match for the NXT Women’s Championship. The other challengers are Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross(who are still scheduled for the match).
Ember faced Asuka at NXT Takeover: Orlando for the NXT Women’s Championship, but she lost the match after Asuka shoved a referee at her as she was getting ready to hit the Eclipse, her finisher.
It was announced a few days ago on WWE.com that Ember Moon was removed from the match at Takeover: Chicago, effectively making it a Triple Threat.
The heart of the matter
According to The Observer, Ember Moon’s injury was pre-existing and was not a result of being shoved against the barricade by Asuka. The shoving was done so that it could write her off television (presumably while protecting her) for a while. Thus the injury angle during the match was faked and done to blend it into storyline.
As mentioned, she is expected to be out for another 4-5 weeks. However, the good news is that she will clearly be ready in time for Takeover: Brooklyn, which is NXT’s biggest show of the year.
What’s next?
Ember Moon will take time off to recover and take her rightful spot on NXT television.
Author’s Take
It is unfortunate timing that Ember was faced with the injury, but the good news is that it doesn’t look like she will miss out on Takeover: Brooklyn. A full year after she debuted would be the perfect time for her to dethrone The Empress Of Tomorrow and become the new NXT Women’s Champion.
Asuka winning the first time around made sense, as Ember didn’t seem to be ready to dethrone her just yet. However, with the right story told, the two have the potential to steal the show at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, similar to how 2 years ago at Brooklyn, Sasha Banks and Bayley stole the show. Moon and Asuka have an untapped chemistry that’s yet to be seen on television.
