From the WWE Rumor Mill: Why Vince McMahon wasn’t at WWE Payback

The Boss wasn’t at Payback

What’s the story?

As reported by Still Real To Us , certain experts within the industry are speculating that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon missed the Payback pay per view event because he no longer likes travelling out West. Vince reportedly skipped the entire three-day loop of shows.

In case you didn’t know...

Vince has been working at 200 mph for many, many years now – ever since he first bought the company from his father. Despite his advanced age, the boss has still followed the same schedule as he has done over the last few decades, with his 18 to 20 hour days defying logic and always surprising many people both in and outside of the business.

The heart of the matter

MLW Radio was the first source to note that Vince wasn’t backstage at Payback, with word quickly spreading throughout the world of professional wrestling. The rumour mill is suggesting that Vince doesn’t really enjoy travelling out West anymore, with others believing that he wants to take a more laid-back approach to travel given how busy his schedule is set to get in the next few months.

What’s next?

With the biopic about Vince’s life confirmed to be happening, it’s likely that the 71-year-old will be required to travel in order to promote the project. In addition to this, WWE’s pay per view schedule is looking busier than ever with Raw and SmackDown Live both looking set to put on a series of brand exclusive events for the remainder of 2017 and beyond.

Author’s take

It’s not surprising to hear that Vince is starting to slow down ever so slightly as father time catches up to everyone eventually – even the supposedly invincible McMahon. We’d love to think Vince can be around forever, but at least we know that when he rides off into the sunset, we’ll be left in the capable hands of none other than Triple H.
