The two will go head-to-head at MITB

What's the story?

At NBC's Upfront event last night at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, WWE Superstars Charlotte, Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey were present. During an interview, Raw Women's Champion Nia Jax challenged Rousey to a match at Money in the Bank and the match was set.

Now, the twitter account WrestleVotes has speculated on the reason behind WWE booking this feud for the Women's Championship.

In case you didn’t know…

Ronda Rousey made her long-awaited in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34 in a tag team match with partner Kurt Angle against the team of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. The match was widely appreciated and regarded as one of the best debuts in company history.

On the same night, Nia Jax won the Raw Women's Championship from Alexa Bliss. Bliss failed to capture the Championship once again in their rematch at Backlash.

The heart of the matter

Ronda Rousey, though a full-time WWE Superstar, hasn't had a single match after her debut. She made a few sporadic appearances on Raw, helping out Natalya a few times and seemed set to start a feud with Mickie James, after she put James in an armbar a few weeks ago.

However, at the Upfront event, it was announced that Rousey would be challenging Jax for the Women's Championship at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view next month. The match felt hastily put together, and the possible reason for this has now emerged.

Apparently, WWE did not want to exclude Rousey from another PPV and at the same time, didn't want to put her in the MITB Ladder match for Women. As they also couldn't have her lose a qualifying match on Raw, a Championship match seemed like the best option for the former UFC Champion.

What's next?

Money in the Bank will take place on June 17th at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, and the match card is already stacked with many exciting bouts.

Author's take

Ronda Rousey winning the Championship might not be the best idea for now, as it will derail Jax's momentum, while Rousey losing clean seems out of the question. WWE will most probably have someone interfere in the match and have it end in DQ.
