From the WWE Rumor Mill: WWE to bring back pyrotechnics for WrestleMania 34

Pyro was a big part of making the WWE feel like a spectacle
Pyro was a big part of making the WWE feel like a spectacle

What's the story?

There was a time when it wouldn't be WrestleMania, or any major WWE show, without copious amounts of pyrotechnics accompanying the wrestlers as they entered the ring, and after they won matches.

But noticeably, the WWE have stopped using pyro nowadays. However, Dave Meltzer reports that he's been told they're bringing it back for this year's WrestleMania 34

In case you didn't know...

In July 2017 it was reported by us, again via Dave Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that the WWE were cutting back on pyro as a cost-cutting exercise.

Meltzer had stated that the pyro was being phased out because the company feels they aren’t necessary for the entrance of wrestlers. This became especially noticeable for fans when Lesnar’s entrance at the Great Balls of Fire PPV featured no pyro during some signature parts of his entrance.

The heart of the matter

This year's WrestleMania is shaping to be one of the biggest of all time with The Undertaker and John Cena finally set to cross paths; the only two men to beat 'Taker at 'Mania - Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns doing battle after a three year build; and of course, the return of Daniel Bryan to the ring.

Now, another delightful story is the long-awaited return of pyrotechnics.

During the mailbag section of Wrestling Observer Radio (H/T Ringside News), Dave Meltzer was asked if there would be pyro during WrestleMania 34 and Dave responded that he had in fact been told by someone that there would be.

"I think it's going to but no-one has told me that. Actually, I think somebody did tell me that. Yeah, somebody did tell me, I think so."

Maybe it isn't the most confident of confirmations, but it'll do for now.

What's next?

At this point, the running order for the 'Mania card is up in the air, with four or five matches having legitimate claims to being the main event.

With this in mind, it's hard to predict where the WWE might bring pyro back, but I'd imagine the best bet would be the match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.
