From the WWE Rumor Mill: WWE to make 205 Live an Enzo Amore-centred show?

Is this the new face of 205 Live?
Is this the new face of 205 Live?

What's the story?

During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that 205 Live appeared to be evolving from a wrestling based show to one centred around Enzo Amore.

In case you didn't know...

Enzo Amore won the Cruiserweight Championship from Neville at No Mercy by nefarious means, effectively laying the groundwork for a double turn.

He is not only the Cruiserweight Champion but also the division's de facto biggest heel. On the most recent episode of 205 Live, he appeared in various segments and was the central character on the show.

The heart of the matter

Even though the Cruiserweight Division is blessed with technically gifted wrestlers, it is desperately deprived of star power. The idea is for Enzo Amore — a man who is essentially the antithesis of most of the cruiserweights on the roster and a mover of merchandise — to draw more eyeballs to 205 Live on the WWE Network.

It's also important to note that despite his apparent heel turn, Amore hasn't shed all of his babyface characteristics. This could mean that WWE is hoping that his merchandise sales don't dip too significantly.

What's next?

Several of the Cruiserweights on the roster, including Neville, breached Kurt Angle's "no-contact clause" and proceeded to assault Enzo Amore on the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw.

However, the rumour mill still suggests that Neville will chase Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship in the not too distant future.

Author's take

Even though Enzo Amore is capable of selling merchandise, he inherently possesses a certain grating quality that makes him a natural heel. Neville is also more than capable of playing the wronged babyface, so things look good for 205 Live going forward.
