What's the story?

WWE might be planning to open up a WWE Academy in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India soon as reported by popular Hindi newspaper Dainik Jagran on Sunday evening.

In case you didn't know...

WWE has been on expansion path as of late and is looking to broaden not only their audience pool but their talent base as well.

India has a huge WWE fan following and is the country with the largest number of WWE followers on Social Media; so it is only natural for the WWE to want to tap this market.

WWE had recently organised a highly successful live event called the 'India Supershow' on 9th December 2017, held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Delhi.

The event saw Triple H go against JInder Mahal in the main event with Triple H picking up the win. After the match Triple H indulged the crowd by performing the dance form 'bhangra' with Jinder and the Singh brothers.

The show also featured two Indian athletes in Jeet Rama and Kishan Raftar who defeated Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel in a tag team match.

The heart of the matter

From WWE making Jinder the WWE Champion to having a WWE live event two years in a row in India, it is clear that the WWE is looking to build India as a market even more.

It is being reported that Triple H who is the WWE COO along with some other members visited the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida and enquired about the facility in order to possibly start an academy over there.

What's next?

With more and more diversity on the WWE roster, it is only natural that WWE will look to tap into the countries with great potential to churn out talent.

With great talents like The Great Khali, Jeet Rama and Kishan Raftar coming from India, there is great scope for expanding the Indian talent pool by opening a performance centre in India itself.

Author's take

India is a country famous for its athletes, especially in the field of combat sports so this will be a huge opportunity for budding talents to make a name for themselves and become WWE Superstars.

This will surely open up a lot of doors and hopefully, India can produce even more Champions for the WWE.
