What's the story?

WWE removed Enzo Amore from the Mixed Match Challenge because of his illness. There was a recent rumour that the 'Certified G' superstar was suffering from Flu as a result of which WWE decided he would not be able to compete in the Mixed Match Challenge.

Enzo was expected to be out of action for a long time. However, 411Mania recently reported an update on Enzo's return, and things may be looking up for the 'Bonafide Stud' of the Cruiserweight division.

In case you didn't know...

Enzo fell ill while he was in Toronto Canada, as part of the WWE Holiday tour. He did not wrestle in Toronto and refused to go to the hospital there. He went to the hospital on New Year's Day, in Miami, before Raw.

Enzo Amore had been scheduled to face Cedric Alexander in a match where he was to defend his Cruiserweight Title but failed to do so due to his illness. He wanted to defend his title on Raw, but the WWE officials did not allow him to do so, as there was fear about how contagious his illness was. There were other stars already suffering from ill health backstage on Raw, with some stars reportedly having to be given IV.

The Enzo incident came right after Braun Strowman was pulled from the Holiday tour because he fell ill.

The heart of the matter

According to the latest report by 411Mania, Enzo Amore has been cleared to return to the ring by WWE. WWE had recently announced that Enzo would not be able to compete in the Mixed Match Challenge and he was to be replaced because of flu.

According to 411Mania, the report did not cite a reason for him being pulled from the MMC, as it is set to take place two weeks later. With Enzo apparently cleared to wrestle, there may be other reasons for his exclusion from the MMC.

What's next?

Enzo Amore is set to return to the ring as early as this weekend, though he may not compete in the MMC unless WWE changes their decision. The Mixed Match Challenge is set to start on the 16th of January following SmackDown Live.

Author's take

WWE may have pulled the trigger too early when it comes to replacing Enzo for the Mixed Match Challenge. Another possibility remains that WWE has different plans for Enzo's spot, and another star is set to replace Enzo.

Nia Jax, at least, will not be happy with this decision
