From the WWE Rumor Mill: Kairi Sane hasn't wrestled since NXT TakeOver: WarGames because she's injured

What's the story?

Veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer responded to a fan on Twitter who asked him why Kairi Sane hasn't wrestled since NXT TakeOver: WarGames by saying that the reason is that she's currently banged up.

In case you didn't know...

Kairi Sane was last seen appearing on the entrance ramp following Ember Moon's title defence against Sonya Deville, 'spotting' her with a telescope and effectively challenging the NXT Women's Champion. However, she was then attacked from behind by a brutal Shayna Baszler, who choked her out.

The heart of the matter

It now seems that the attack from Baszler may have been intended to write Kairi off television for a little while as she didn't feature in any of the recent NXT tapings, which means it is likely that we won't see her until after NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia.

Here is the aforementioned tweet:

Kairi actually hasn't wrestled since November 18th, which was the Fatal Fourway NXT Title match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, meaning that she must be fairly banged up to miss at least three months of in-ring competition, and what could be many more.

What's next?

Something like this isn't too hard to cover up in NXT due to the eclectic nature of its booking. For example Billie Kay and Peyton Royce are not currently carrying any injuries that we know of but they haven't been used in-ring for quite some time now.

As for Kairi it seems that when she does return to in-ring action she'll be going for the NXT Women's Title holder, whoever that is at the time, whether it's Ember Moon, or the insurgent Shayna Baszler.

Author's take

People need not be too concerned about Sane here, as NXT can afford to let its talent rest and rehab from slight knocks and injuries whereas the main roster can't, so this is likely just the WWE doing all it can to protect Kairi and not exacerbate her injuries.
