From the WWE rumour mill: NXT star getting early main-roster call up?

A few NXT Superstars to debut on Raw or SmackDown

What's the story?

The Superstar Shake-Up rakes place on RAW and SmackDown next week and as expected, we will probably see a number of surprises including a few debuting NXT Superstars.

F4Wonline is reporting one name who is being considered for an early call-up from NXT, much sooner than anyone expected. That Superstar is none other than NXT standout, the Velveteen Dream.

In case you didn't know...

Velveteen Dream is portrayed by former Tough Enough contestant Patrick Clark. Although Clark got voted off the show early, he was soon signed by the WWE. After trying out a couple of gimmicks at house shows, he finally made his NXT television debut in July 2016.

Dream is one of the most popular Superstars in NXT right now and it looks like he may have impressed higher-ups in WWE. His character work is as good as anyone else in NXT right now.

Velveteen Dream competed in the 6-man ladder match for the NXT North American Championship at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans. Despite losing, Dream was impressive as usual.

The heart of the matter

According to F4Wonline, there has been some talk of Dream being called up to the main roster early. They added, however, that there were "different schools of thought on it" so this is by no means a sure thing.

It would probably be better for Dream to spend some more time in NXT and refine his skills as a performer. However, like Elias, Velveteen Dream could be one of those Superstars who find more success on the main roster.

What's next?

The WWE Superstar Shake-Up takes place next week on RAW and SmackDown Live respectively.

Author's takes

Velveteen Dream is one of the best characters in WWE right now. He's similar to a modern-day Goldust in some ways but Dream has refined it for the modern WWE audience.

If Velveteen does get the call-up, one feud I really want to see is a long program with Chris Jericho.
