From the WWE rumour mill: Original plans for Charlotte Flair's current feud revealed

Charlotte wasn't originally supposed to face these three NXT women

What's the story?

Charlotte Flair is currently in a feud with the trio from NXT that just invaded SmackDown Live, known as The Riott Squad. Before the call-up happened, the original plans were indeed quite different.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter states that Charlotte Flair was initially scheduled to face Tamina Snuka. The call-ups changed plans, for the time being at least.

In case you didn't know...

Charlotte Flair became the SmackDown Women's Champion recently, and in doing so, became the first woman to become the champion on all three brands- NXT, RAW and SmackDown Live.

She even went over Alexa Bliss at Survivor Series in a match to determine which brand had the superior woman. SmackDown Live won the fight, in this very case.

Her next opponent would have been yet another second-generation star, but those plans were changed.

The heart of the matter

The Wrestling Observer believes that before the Riott Squad was called up to the main roster, Charlotte and Tamina Snuka were on a collision course for a program.

This would have been interesting, as both women are second generation stars (Charlotte Flair is the daughter of Ric Flair, and Tamina Snuka is the daughter of Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka) and both are seen as powerhouses.

However, the NXT call-ups have put this plan on hold, for the time being.

It remains to be seen that after this particular program transpires, whether or not Charlotte Flair will be booked in a program with Tamina Snuka.

Tamina is one woman who's been lost in the mix, so a push for her would have been quite interesting.

What's next?

The Wrestling Observer speculates that the heart of the matter is more TV time for the NXT Call-Ups. They need more visibility to get over.

Author's take

I prefer the NXT call-ups feuding with Charlotte over Charlotte Flair against Tamina Snuka. WWE has done little to show Tamina Snuka as a credible threat, quite honestly.

Flair against Tamina Snuka would have been a predictable feud, with The Queen easily defeating her opponent.
