From the WWE Rumour Mill: Real reason why Kurt Angle & Triple H joined The Shield
Wrestling guru Dave Meltzer offers an interesting perspective.
What's the story?
WWE has been on tour in the United Kingdom and The Shield has been a featured attraction during their RAW Live Events. However, The Shield has been operating without a central figure, "The Big Dog".
In the absence of Roman Reigns, Triple H and Kurt Angle have become honorary members of The Shield. Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer reports that this is only because the company believes that without Reigns, The Shield is lacking in star power.
We would like to thank Ring Side News for the transcript.
In case you didn't know...
The Shield reunited with much hype and hoopla right before the TLC pay-per-view event. However, a viral outbreak caused Roman Reigns to miss the big reunion. Kurt Angle stepped in for Reigns, as an honorary member of the Hounds of Justice.
Subsequently, Triple H and Kurt Angle donned the Shield vests to align with the "Hounds of Justice", at UK Live Events.
The heart of the matter
WWE brought back legends such as Triple H and Kurt Angle, because they believe that the star power of RAW has diminished without Roman Reigns in tow.The report further speculates that The New Day has been working at RAW Live Events in the absence of Roman Reigns, as they believe that Reigns is a major draw.
Of course, the absence of Roman Reigns brought about these once-in-a-lifetime moments, that must have been a treat for fans to behold and cherish. We do wonder if Reigns is as big a draw as WWE thinks he really is.
Roman Reigns returns to the fold next week, on RAW. We are uncertain what role he will play. Sadly, it does mean that the cameos from temporary Shield members will stop for good, however.
All said and done, Roman Reigns does get a reaction. At the same time, I really wonder if Reigns is as big a star as WWE believes him to be, honestly. Only time will tell what the legacy of Roman Reigns in WWE will be.
