What's the story?

The WWE just announced that Roman Reigns would no longer be competing at TLC 2017, putting the Shield reunion on hold, and leading to the humongous news that Kurt Angle will be returning to WWE in-ring action for the first time in 11 years as his replacement. But why is Roman Reigns out?

In case you didn't know...

Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas were conspicuously absent from WWE television and house shows for two weeks with no-one knowing why. We then reported earlier this week that the reason why the two real-life brothers were off WWE TV was that they, and Bray's partner Jojo Offerman, were dealing with a viral meningitis outbreak, and the WWE had effectively 'quarantined' them to prevent other Superstars being affected.

It was then speculated online that other Superstars might be affected by the illness and that the pay-per-view this weekend was in doubt with many matches possible needing to change.

The heart of the matter

Jojo Offerman's mother denied the meningitis claims stating her daughter did not have the illness, but WWE's latest announcement clearly indicates there is a viral illness going around the WWE camp and that Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns are affected because of it and can no longer compete at TLC.

Wrestlinginc.com has reported that the WWE is testing everyone on the Raw roster for a viral illness and that after initially thinking it was meningitis, they now think that it is the mumps, with several wrestlers testing positive for the illness.

It seems incredibly likely that this is the reason why Reigns won't be at the TLC main event as he either has meningitis or the mumps. At the very least he may have been in contact with someone else who has the illness and can no longer wrestle in the ring for fear of virally spreading it.

What's next?

A lot of what we know is completely speculative at the moment, we're not sure what the illness actually is, whether it's the mumps or meningitis, and we're not sure if the Superstars in question are actually sick, or just being kept away from TLC 2017 as a precaution to stop the contagious illness from spreading. Hopefully, things will become clearer over the next few days.

Until then we have a drastically different pay-per-view to look forward to with Kurt Angle making his much anticipated WWE return in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match of all things, and the exciting prospect of two of WWE's best wrestlers Finn Balor vs Bray Wyatt.
