From the WWE Rumour Mill: Rockstar Spud teases potential return for his former partner

What's the story?

Former Impact and current WWE superstar Rockstar Spud, who signed with the company late last year and is currently awaiting his start date, has teased fans ahead of a potential reunion.

He tweeted the following picture earlier, suggesting that we may potentially see his former Impact partner Ethan Carter III making a return to the WWE in future.

In case you didn't know...

Ethan Carter III had an almost forgettable run with WWE back in 2009 to 2013, performing in developmental as Derrick Bateman. He regularly featured on NXT before their revamp process began.

Rockstar Spud was a frequent tag team partner of his between 2013 and 2015, while EC3 parted ways with Impact Wrestling during their most recent set of tapings over the weekend.

His contract does not technically expire until next summer, but he was granted an early release. Impact were reluctant to let him leave but as their highest-paid star who has refused an extension, they agreed to his demands as a cost-cutting measure.

The heart of the matter

EC3 joining WWE is something that many fans have wanted to see for a while now. Even though he just recently left Impact, many fans already expect to see him sign with the company almost immediately. There are some rumours that he's interested in a return, for a bigger and better run at success.

What's next?

Fans are hoping that EC3 does sign with WWE soon, should both sides declare an interest in the other. However, it's not yet known whether his final Impact appearance will be aired on TV and it's unlikely that he'd feature on WWE TV until then. The reason behind fans' urgency for this to be complete, is in time for NXT TakeOver in New Orleans during the WrestleMania weekend.

For now, it's clear that Rockstar Spud is only teasing and many wrestlers love to create hype through social media in this way. EC3 is certainly a talented wrestler and has developed into a significant name, one who could make a grand return to the company. We can only hope that there is more truth to this than just pure speculation.
