What's the story?

In their latest broadcasted GFW Anthology Special, the GFW commentary team claimed that Bobby Roode 'made the jump' from NXT, omitting to mention the fact that the tapes were two years old.

In case you didn't know...

Bobby Roode recently made his main roster debut on Smackdown on the 22nd of August, after more than a year in NXT.

He was the oldest ever NXT Champion after defeating Shinsuke Nakamura in January, and then went on to successfully defend his title for a long time. He finally lost the title at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III, and after his last match on NXT television against Roderick Strong, he bid farewell to the show to devote his time to the main roster.

The heart of the matter

GFW broadcasted their show, GFW Anthology on pay-per-view. In the show, they aired footage that was taped in 2015, meant to be used in a Television pilot. However, as the show was not picked up they were never aired.

While the tapes were two years old, the commentary most certainly was not. It was fused together with a new tape and the that made it seem like Bobby Roode had left NXT to join GFW.

Fans noticed the hint immediately and took to Twitter when the commentary said,

"We have seen Bobby Roode everywhere. He is a champion in NXT, has made the jump. Bobby Roode, "The Glorious One" that they call him is everywhere, right here at Global Force Wrestling."

While it did not go out and say directly that Bobby Roode left NXT to join GFW, the commentary indirectly implied that Roode 'made the jump' from NXT to GFW.

They also used the "The Glorious One" moniker which WWE created from the Roode's theme song, a whole year after the tapings.

What's next?

Although a repeated act, a cheap stunt like this will not do GFW any good in their struggles to get out of their financial hole. A WWE Lawsuit may soon greet them for this act.

Author's take

This distasteful stunt like this may cause GFW more trouble than they know and if not a lawsuit the footage may just be what WWE needs as leverage to get the Broken gimmick of the Hardy Boyz.
