How Kofi Kingston took away Mustafa Ali’s spotlight in one week

The past week has belonged to the 11-year veteran, Kingston. After surviving over 50 minutes in the gauntlet match on last week’s SmackDown Live, he became the last man to survive within the Elimination Chamber against The New Daniel Bryan.

Although he didn’t win the championship, he won the respect of the WWE Universe who are now demanding Kingston vs Bryan at WrestleMania.

But one can’t help but wonder, was this supposed to be Mustafa Ali gaining the respect instead of Kingston?

Mustafa Ali was pulled from the match due to injury and was replaced with Kingston. Before his injury, he gained the attention of the WWE Universe by facing off against the likes of Samoa Joe and Andrade Cien Almas. Within one week, it seems as if all his hard work has been overshadowed by the veteran.

Kingston, however, in a post-match interview on WWE.com, acknowledged Ali by saying he didn’t want to let him down.

This is a perfect setup for a three-way championship match between Ali, Kingston, and Bryan. Unlike the majority of matches on a Pay-Per-View where you get the same kind of match, here you have three men who all have something to fight for.

Bryan with his push on fighting for the world, Ali to cement his place in history, and Kingston for the title that has eluded him throughout his career.

With so much hype behind these three superstars, it has the makings of what could be the main event at this year’s show.

There’s no word yet on when Ali will be back competing following his injury, but if it’s before Mania, then this would be a match the fans will want to see on the card.

To find out what’s next for Kingston and the New Day, Ali, and Bryan - tune in to SmackDown Live tonight.
