From the WWE Rumor Mill: Huge update about Carmella's Money in the Bank contract cash in

Carmella
The Princess of Staten Island won the briefcase back in June 2017

What's the story?

On the recent episode of 'Backstage in WWE', famed pro wrestling journalist Brad Shepard stated that Carmella might cash in her Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 34.

In case you didn’t know…

The first ever Women's Money in the Bank ladder match was held this past year in June. A controversial ending saw James Ellsworth retrieving the briefcase and throwing it to Carmella, thus making her the winner.

On the following episode of SmackDown Live, GM Daniel Bryan forced Carmella to relinquish the briefcase.

On the same episode, a rematch of the MITB ladder match was held, and the former Lakers Girl ended up winning the bout, giving her a shot at the Women's Championship at a time and place of her choosing, within the next year.

The heart of the matter

On the latest installment of 'Backstage in WWE with Brad Shepard and Jon Fisher', Shepard revealed that talks are on about having Carmella finally cash in her MITB contract, most probably at WrestleMania 34. The surprising part, however, is that the Princess of Staten Island is set to lose the bout. (H/T: bodyslam.net):

“Carmella, I’m told could very well cash in her Money in the Bank at WrestleMania and lose.”

Apparently, Carmella is on board about losing her contract match, as she is aware that Asuka being the champion is inevitable, and that if she has to lose, it might as well be at the Grandest Stage Of Them All.

“Well apparently from what I’ve heard she’s okay with it. She’s down to do it. She basically knows Asuka is going to be champ and she doesn’t have a chance of winning the championship from her so it’s kinda like, “You might as well make the most of losing. Why not WrestleMania?”

What's next?

WrestleMania 34 is set to take place on April 8th in New Orleans. It seems highly unlikely that Carmella will cash in her MITB contract any time before WrestleMania, so it seems like this speculation might just turn out to be true.

There is also the possibility that plans might be changed to have Carmella cash in after WrestleMania, since the contract expires only in June 2018, giving her two more months.

Author's take

WWE should not have waited this long to have Carmella cash in. A surprise cash in during any episode of SmackDown Live could have helped both the show and could have elevated Carmella to the main event scene as well.

If she ends up being unsuccessful in the cash in, that will just relegate the Princess back to the mid-card.
