What's the story?

Former TNA World Champion Austin Aries sat down and talked with Sean Waltman on his X-Pac12360 podcast to discuss a variety of topics. One of those topics was Aries' interaction with Impact Wrestling after his release from the WWE earlier this year.

In case you didn't know...

Austin Aries wrestled for Impact Wrestling on two different occasions. The first stop was from 2005 to 2007, and then he returned for a run from 2011 to 2015. Aries has held the TNA World Heavyweight Championship once, the TNA World Tag Team Championship once, and is a six-time TNA X-Division Champion.

The heart of the matter

Aries was released from his WWE contract in July, and on Waltman's podcast, he confirmed that Impact Wrestling has contacted him for a potential third stint with the company. He confirmed when he left the first time he told Dixie Carter that he wouldn't come back and work for just anyone.

Ultimately Aries decided to continue to work as a free agent in the independents and he would go into detail about why in the quote below.

"I know where I am right now in my career and all the possibilities and things I have in front of me, I really couldn't invest myself emotionally into that because let's be honest they've got a lot of work to do there."

Another reason why Aries doesn't want to return to Impact is the fact that they have been doing bad business for a long time and there is a lot to overcome.

What's next?

Next up for Austin Aries is a trip to Leeds and London in the United Kingdome wrestling for Defiant Wrestling. Take a look at the tweet from the promotion below:

Author's take

Honestly, I think Aries is smart for not returning to Impact Wrestling and keeping his options open. He's in high demand, so he's not going to be hurting for work anytime soon.

In the end, I would love Aries to come back to the WWE, but only if he wants to. Potentially it is a return to the WWE after his in-ring career is done because he was amazing on color commentary during 205 Live and when the Cruiserweights were on Raw while Aries was recovering from injury.
