Impact News: Eli Drake reveals what demotivated him at NXT

s
Say it with me...E-LI. Drake.

What's the story?

In a recent interview with Wrestling With Ideas, current Impact Global Champion Eli Drake spoke about Drake's days in NXT and who wasn't the biggest fan of him.

In case you didn't know...

Drake won the Impact Global Championship on the August 24th edition of Impact Wrestling. Alberto El Patron vacated the title after his suspension and Drake won it in a 20-man Gauntlet For The Gold Match.

The heart of the matter

Drake was in NXT for a short period of time in 2013 and 2014, and he cited Dusty Rhodes as being one of his greatest mentors, but also mentioned that there was someone there at NXT that wasn't a fan of him. In the interview, Drake would refer to him as "Bill something", as he couldn't remember the name.

That would be Bill DeMott who was the former head trainer for NXT and the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. DeMott resigned from the company in 2015 after allegations of misconduct and abuse of those who were training for the company.

Drake would further explain his relationship with DeMott below (H/T WrestlingInc.com):

"We were hot and cold from day to day. It would be very strange when you would walk in and go 'Hey Bill, Good morning, how are you doing?' and you go to shake the guy's hand. He looks at it and then walks away. This guy's the head coach."

What's next?

Eli Drake will defend his Impact Global Championship on November 5th at Bound For Glory against newcomer Johnny Impact (John Morrison in the WWE or Johnny Mundo from Lucha Underground).

The pay-per-view also features a triple threat match for the Impact Knockouts Championship between the champion Sienna, and Allie and Gail Kim.

Author's take

Drake isn't the only one to have problems with DeMott, and that was well-publicised when he resigned from the company a couple of years back. Much like Ethan Carter III, who was also in NXT, Drake made a name for himself in Impact Wrestling.

To be honest, he's my favourite wrestler in the company, and I was beyond excited to see him become a world champion. Unfortunately, I think he will be losing the title to Johnny Impact this weekend.
