After missing the Impact Wrestling vs. Lucha Underground show during WrestleMania 34 weekend, Alberto El Patrón was fired from Impact Wrestling.

El Patrón was expected to team with Pentagon Jr. against the team of Austin Aries and Fenix, but the match was changed to a triple threat once El Patrón couldn't be found in time for the main event.

The most confusing part of the absence was the fact that El Patrón appeared at WrestleCon earlier in the day, but there has been no reason given regarding why the former world champion was absent from the event.

Impact Wrestling released the following statement regarding the termination of El Patrón:

El Patrón made his way to Impact Wrestling at the beginning of 2017 when he defeated Bobby Lashley to win the Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship and went on to beat Lashley again to unify the Impact title with the GFW Global Championship.

However, El Patrón would be suspended and stripped of the title due to a domestic incident involving his former girlfriend and current WWE superstar Paige.

El Patrón also had a history with Lucha Underground and was a former wrestler with the promotion until he left the company in fall 2015 to resume his career with WWE under the name "Alberto Del Rio."

His run with WWE ended in fall 2016 when he left the company to work the independents and eventually signed with Impact Wrestling
