Impact Wrestling News: New Knockouts Champion crowned during latest episode

Laurel Van Ness
Former ASW Women's Champion- Laurel Van Ness

What's the story?

On last night's episode of Impact Wrestling, the American promotion decided to crown a brand new Impact Knockouts Champion- as Laurel Van Ness won the vacated championship for the first time in her career.

In case you didn't know...

At this year's Bound for Glory pay-per-view, veteran superstar and Impact Hall of Famer Gail Kim won her seventh Knockouts Championship in a triple threat match against Allie and then champion Sienna.

Kim won the championship by pinning Sienna on the night, in a match that would turn out to be the final match of her illustrious career. On the next night on Impact, the 40-year-old called it a career and vacated the Impact Knockouts Championship in the process.

It was later announced by Impact management that the company would crown a brand new Knockouts Champion very soon.

The heart of the matter

On last night's episode of Impact, Laurel Van Ness went toe-to-toe with former champion Rosemary in the main event of the evening.

The two ladies wrestled each other to a pretty fun match which had a very exciting finish to it as well. The two competitors escaped from each other's finishers at first as Rosemary charged Van Ness into the corner, but, she managed to avoid making any contact with the turnbuckle.

With the referee being distracted with Van Ness' shenanigans, Rosemary got the chance to spray mist on her opponent's face but was unable to do so, as Van Ness blocked it using her hands. LVN then raked the face of the Demon Assassin with her misted hands and then delivered the Unprettier as she got the win and became the new Knockouts Champion.

What's next?

With Van Ness winning the Knockouts Title it will be interesting to note who her first major rival turns out to be and which knockout emerges as the first challenger to LVN's championship.

Author's Take

Van Ness and Rosemary put up an absolutely amazing match at this week's Impact episode and Van Ness winning the title for the first time was also a great move made by Impact. The 26-year-old is definitely one of the most interesting characters on Impact today and is also a very good in-ring performer.
