What’s the story?

In an interview with Arm Drag Takedown With Pollo Del Mar (*highlights courtesy—Huffington Post*), Tyrus opened up on a myriad of topics.

Revealing the series of happenings which led him to quit Impact Wrestling, Tyrus attributed his relationship or lack thereof with Jeff Jarrett as the primary reason behind his departure from the promotion.

In case you didn’t know…

Tyrus, whose real name is George Murdoch, performed for the WWE from 2006-14, perhaps best known for his time as ‘Brodus Clay’ aka ‘The Funkasaurus.

The 44-year-old also competed for Impact Wrestling as Tyrus from 2014 until his departure was announced in August of this year.

The heart of the matter

Tyrus pointed out that Impact Wrestling initially didn’t want him working for Jeff Jarrett-helmed GFW (Global Force Wrestling), and he was given the option to either work for the former or leave the company for GFW. Tyrus noted that he stayed with Impact Wrestling since they paid him more, and GFW didn’t have the funds to make him a better offer.

Furthermore, Tyrus claimed that Jarrett tried his best to lure him to GFW by stating that Impact Wrestling was about to shut shop. Nevertheless, Tyrus emphasized that something which baffled him was that Jarrett himself turned up a couple of weeks later and started working for Impact Wrestling. Tyrus alluded to being disappointed with Jarrett, stating:

"When Jeff Jarrett came along (during the brief Impact-GFW merger earlier this year)— because he and I have an uncomfortable history — I just wasn't comfortable with the management. ... Unless (Jarrett) and I were going to have a sit-down—which just wasn't going to happen—I knew this was not going to be a spot for me. I just wasn't comfortable with it."

What’s next?

Tyrus has since retired from the sport of professional wrestling and is now pursuing a career in the world of politics in addition to an acting career.

Author’s take

Tyrus was a consistent star for 3 years, and the company arguably dropped the ball with him.

Should Tyrus’ claims against Jeff Jarrett be true, it wouldn't be a good look for Double-J who’s already neck-deep in controversy. Regardless, here’s hoping the duo can sort out their differences someday.
