House Of Hardcore invades Philly during Royal Rumble weekend

What's the story?

Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported on an update on the evolution of Tommy Dreamer's House Of Hardcore promotion. Sportskeeda previously reported that Dreamer was adding championships in 2018, and the first title to be added will be the House Of Hardcore Television Championship.

In case you didn't know...

House of Hardcore was started by former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Tommy Dreamer in 2012. Since then the promotion has run a total of 36 specials, including the last two streamed live on the Twitch platform.

The main event of the very first show in 2012 was Carlito defeating Tommy Dreamer and Mike Knoxx for the FWE (Family Wrestling Entertainment) Heavyweight Championship. The most recent main event on December 2nd saw Austin Aries wrestle in his hometown for the first time ever taking on Joey Mercury.

The heart of the matter

A tournament to crown the first ever HOH Television Champion will begin at House Of Hardcore 37 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 26th during Royal Rumble weekend.

At the time of this writing, it is unknown who will compete and when the winner will be crowned, but it is possible that House Of Hardcore 38 in New Orleans, Louisiana, during WrestleMania weekend, could be a potential date.

For the Philadelphia show, the main event will consist of the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis and Joey Mercury, accompanied to the ring by Shane Douglas, taking on Tommy Dreamer and a mystery partner, with another mystery person accompanying them to ringside.

What's next?

House Of Hardcore 37 is next up for the brand in roughly six weeks. In addition to the previously mentioned main event, other talent scheduled to appear include Super Crazy, Willie Mack, Matt Riddle, Lisa Marie Varon, Luchasaurus, Billy Gunn, and much more.

Author's take

It's great to see the evolution of House Of Hardcore. Tommy Dreamer has put a lot of work into this promotion and the work is starting to pay off in the form of the Twitch deal and creation of championships.

Twitch platform is great for live pro wrestling and I hope more promotions go this way sometime down the road.

As for the first ever HOH Television Champion, I would like to see someone like Austin Aries be the first champion ever in the promotion.
