Indie News: The Young Bucks speak on proving people wrong, losing Too Sweet, and continued success

Nick and Matt Jackson, The Young Bucks, recently spoke with Sports Illustrated's "Extra Mustard". Matt Jackson commented on a number of topics, including proving their doubters wrong, losing the 'Too Sweet' as a trademark to WWE and their continued success.

In case you didn’t know...

When The Young Bucks joined the Bullet Club and began to make it in the big time, a lot of fans attributed much of their success to throwing up a 'Too Sweet', the popular hand gesture from The Klique and NWO back in the 90s.

In response to the Bullet Club 'invading' the outside of a venue for WWE RAW back in September 2017, WWE sent the Bucks a cease and desist letter, preventing them from using it. Although other Bullet Club members are still allowed to use it, none have since.

The heart of the matter

While speaking to Sports Illustrated, the Bucks were asked about having proved people wrong, losing being able to throw up a 'Too Sweet', and their continued success. When asked about proving people wrong, Matt Jackson said:

"We've made a career out of working with a chip on our shoulder. Maybe that's why we work so hard? To prove others wrong? The pool of doubters has thinned in recent years, but it's definitely still around."

Matt also commented on losing 'Too Sweet', and their continued success. He said:

"People said our careers were over when the 'Too Sweet' hand gesture was taken from us. Now, it doesn't even feel strange not doing it. People said we only knew how to work one style. Then we switched it up completely. People said Bullet Club had peaked for years now. Yet, here we are, as we continue to help it stay interesting and popular."

What’s next?

The Young Bucks will collide with fellow Elite member Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi at this year’s Strong Style Evolved pay-per-view on March 25 in California. The Bucks were also recently announced as guests for the WrestleCon in New Orleans.

Author’s take

A lot of people thought The Young Bucks wouldn't go onto accomplish much more after their run in TNA was so poor, but they have been able to rise above it to become among the biggest stars in the business, outside of WWE. They have certainly proved their doubters wrong.
