What's the story?

Austin Aries made his first televised appearance Saturday evening since his release from the WWE in July. That appearance was in Philadelphia at House Of Hardcore 35; which was the promotion's debut event streaming live on Twitch.

Within the lengthy promo, Aries talked about getting fired from the WWE and his mindset going into his WrestleMania match with Neville. Many people expected him to shoot on the WWE, but it was quite the opposite in what was a revealing and amazing promo.

In case you didn't know...

Aries' debut in the WWE on the March 2nd episode of NXT where he was attacked by Baron Corbin, which set up a match at NXT Takeover: Dallas. He would then transition to the Cruiserweight Division as a commentator and wrestler before being released this past July.

The heart of the matter

Aries started the promo off with saying many people were expecting a hateful shoot on the WWE with a hot mic in his hand, but he just wanted to say one thing, "man it's f*****g great to be back in Philadelphia and House of Hardcore."

He mentioned that his original nickname when he started in the pro wrestling business was The Truth, and he jokingly blamed R-Truth for messing that up for him. He stated that going forward he will be known as "The Truth" Austin Aries.

Aries said it would be easy to call out people and name names of who is responsible in the wrestling industry today, but he's only going to call out one name and one name only, Austin Aries. He said he's earned the reputation of being one of the best wrestlers in the business, but he earned another reputation, and that is being an a****le and being hard to work with.

Aries stated that this reputation followed him to the WWE and the truth behind why the WWE fired him was not because creative couldn't find anything for him, it was because Aries said he deserved to be fired.

He was miserable in the WWE and it brought the worst out in him. He talks about WrestleMania 33 and his match with Neville. Aries stated that WrestleMania should be the pinnacle of anyone's career in professional wrestling, but he "couldn't find an ounce of joy."

What's next?

House Of Hardcore 36 "Blizzard Brawl Homecoming" is the next event live streamed on Twitch. The event takes place on December 2nd live from Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Austin Aries, wrestling for the first time ever in his hometown, will take on Joey Mercury. It will also be Candice Michelle's last wrestling match of her career as she takes on Lisa Marie Varon (Victoria from the WWE).

Tommy Dreamer takes on Abyss in Hardcore War, and others scheduled to appear include Al Snow, Carlito, Swoggle, and MVP.

Author's take

Though there were a few in the Philadelphia crowd that proclaimed their boredom of Aries' long promo, I thought it was tremendous and showed a completely different side of him. He was completely transparent about his release from the WWE, and only threw himself under the bus.

I've always been a huge fan of Aries, and I'm glad that I have a platform to see him wrestle and cut great promos again with House Of Hardcore on Twitch.
