Indie Wrestling News: Wade Barrett announced as General Manager

Why is he not wrestling though?

What’s the story?

WCPW (soon to be re-branded as Defiant Wrestling) has announced that former WWE Superstar Wade Barrett aka Stu Bennett is set to serve as the General Manager for the promotion.

On that note, WCPW emphasized that Bennett would open the organization’s Refuse To Lose Internet pay-per-view on October 2nd.

Additionally, Bennett addressed the same with a rather ominous message, asserting that there were going to be a few changes at WCPW.

In case you didn’t know…

Wade Barrett, whose real name is Stuart Bennett, performed for WWE from 2007-16 and briefly stepped away from the sport to pursue an acting career.

Apparently, WCWP — a British professional wrestling promotion which has been struggling financially after YouTube demonetized pro-wrestling videos — is now re-branding itself as Defiant Wrestling and roping in Bennett as a star attraction going forward.

The heart of the matter

WCPW aka Defiant Wrestling released several notable members from its ranks and promises to revamp itself by bringing in new faces in response to its ongoing financial crisis.

Speaking of which, the company plans to go forward with Stu Bennett as its GM; and have the man open one of its biggest annual iPPVs ergo Refuse To Lose come October 2nd.

Furthermore, WCPW management and Bennett promise to usher in a new era for the popular English wrestling organization.

What’s next?

WCPW/Defiant Wrestling’s Refuse To Lose iPPV goes down at the Northumbria Students Union 2, Sandyford Road, Newcastle, United Kingdom on October 2nd.

The event will be headlined by Joe Hendry and Willliam Ospreay for the WCPW Championship, also featuring the Young Bucks as the co-headliners for the show.

Author’s take

The promotion seems to be taking recent negative developments in its stride and reinventing itself — defiant in the face of adversity (pun intended) — as Defiant Wrestling.
