What’s the story?
British pro-wrestling prospect Will Ospreay recently spoke to ESPN about his views on moving to WWE, the recent criticism of indie wrestling, the ’Dive’ controversy, retiring at the age of 30 and more.
In case you didn’t know...
William Ospreay has been competing in the sport of professional wrestling since 2012 and is now contracted to ROH (Ring Of Honor) and NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling).
The 24-year old Englishman is widely touted as one of the hottest prospects in the sport today.
The heart of the matter
Ospreay weighed in on him going to WWE, stating that he’d love to test the waters outside the company, but for now, he wants to have fun and be himself, rather than being bound by WWE right now.
“I am contracted. At the end of it, I'm with Ring of Honor, I'm with New Japan. I've got no choice. They say jump, I saw how high? Would I like to change? Absolutely, but I need to able to show them I'm worth something now, and this is how I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna spend two years with Ring of Honor under contract, and then I'm gonna say, 'Hey, I'm gonna do what I want to do.' I want to be able to offer them something by going around and performing, not just at Ring of Honor, not just at New Japan, but the world.”
On the recent criticism directed toward the independent pro-wrestling circuit by stars such as Rip Rogers and Randy Orton, he stated, "I thought it was really funny. I do agree a bit, quite a lot of it. I do feel like wrestling has become very similar (in style), but just listen to that crowd from New York. It is that format, and everyone was going insane. I don't know what to say but ... dive."
Furthermore, the young Brit added that he’d love to retire at the age of 30 with a house in England and just continue helping the indie scene over there, but knows that it may be easier said than done.
He opined that he may remain with NJPW all his life. Ospreay also spoke about being a superhero, who he feels are the best athletes in wrestling and much more.
What’s next?
William Ospreay presently competes for ROH and NJPW and plans to stay with the promotion in view of building his resume. No plans of his potential signing with WWE have been revealed as of yet.

It’s nice to see him hone his craft outside the world’s premier pro-wrestling promotion, for now, but I do hope to see him in the WWE within the next 3-4 years.
