Interview: Eli Drake reveals how he feels about being compared to The Rock

Eli Drake

What's the story?

I had a chance to talk to The Namer of Dummies, better known as Eli Drake as part of a teleconference call and got the chance to ask him a few questions including what he feels about his frequent comparisons with The Rock.

In case you didn't know...

Eli Drake is a former Impact World Champion and currently holds 2 feast or fired briefcases guaranteeing him opportunities for the Tag Team, as well as the World Championship.

The heart of the matter

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

Sk: You are one of the best promos in the industry today, and are often compared to The Rock. How does that make you feel?
Eli: I have mixed feeling about that. It is a huge compliment in a lot of ways and I'd like to correct you one thing-- I'm actually the best mic man in the industry today, let's be honest. That is a great comparison actually, to be compared to the best mic worker of all time, can't argue with that, but sometimes it can be mistaken for imitation so I have mixed emotions about it. There is a lot said on social media and I try not to pay too much attention on that. You know, I do what I do and what I do is influenced by Stone Cold, The Rock and even Hogan and Flair, a little bit from all of those guys so yeah... I'll accept that comparison.

He also spoke about his former tag team partner during his time in the independent circuit: Brian Cage. On being asked if we could see them pair up again, Drake replied that they are both doing their own things currently but one should never say never implying that there may be a possibility in the future.

What's next?

Eli Drake will be facing the current Impact Tag Team Champions--LAX for their titles along with his tag team partner, Scott Steiner at Impact Redemption PPV on April 22.
