What's the story?

One-third of the stable New Day, Kofi Kingston completed his 10 years in World Wrestling Entertainment. In an interview with WWE.com, Kingston talked about his struggle in the industry to reach the peak of his career.

In case you didn't know

Kofi Kingston joined WWE ten years ago on January 22, 2008, as a part of 2008 WWE Supplemental Draft. Since then, the 36-year-old superstar has been an evolving figure in WWE. Kingston is currently a member of the WWE stable New Day along with Big E and Xavier Woods.

During his tenure in WWE, Kingston has won 14 championships. He is a three-time United States Champion, four-time Intercontinental Champion, and a seven-time Tag Team Champion.

The heart of the matter

Kofi Kingston has recently completed a tenure of ten years in WWE. Speaking in an interview with WWE.com, Kingston talked about the struggle he faced during the start of his career and how he worked hard to maintain his name in the game. He also talked about how the establishment of New Day uplifted his career,

"Being allowed to speak. My first, what, five, six years I was never given a microphone. Now we have this New Day thing where we talk pretty much every single week. It allows me to open up a whole different side, so I just think it’s really important to be able to adapt. That was the main goal. Even now it’s the main goal in The New Day. We're always thinking of different things to be on the cutting edge of what’s entertaining or what’s hot on Twitter or social media or even society in general. I’ve had little goals here and there. But that’s the main goal. Always changing, always be prepared to adapt."

He further revealed how he and his teammates, Big E and Xavier Woods worked hard all these years to stay at the top of the league in the industry.

"You need a little bit of luck too, and you need people to believe in you. Vince McMahon believed in our idea, and we went back and forth with him for about six to eight months before he allowed us to be on television. A lot of people don’t necessarily have that grind. Some people have that grind, and for whatever reason, they just aren’t given the opportunity. So, having the grind, having the opportunity and being able to capitalize on that opportunity as well, because some people get the chance and they don’t deliver. Luckily, we’ve been able to have all of those things."

What's next?

The Flying Jamaican is all set to enter the 30-man Royal Rumble match on January 28, 2018, at Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia.

Author's take

During his ten years in WWE, we have seen Kofi emerging as an evolving wrestler. He has become a familiar face of WWE since he formed the alliance, New Day. His ability to ward off being eliminated at Royal Rumble has also been strengthened through the years. In addition, his teammates Big E and Xavier Woods would also be joining him at the Royal Rumble. In such a case, New Day can compete together against the 27 other entrants.
