Lesnar to UFC - McGregor to WWE?

Conor Mcgregor might not be in anybody's good books right now, but you have to admit he knows how to get the people talking...

It's no secret that the currently rumoured plan for WWE Universal champion Brock Lesnar is for him to lose the red-brand title to former WWE champion and overly-pushed baby face Roman Reigns.

It's also no secret that his very lucrative WWE contract is set to expire the very day after Wrestlemania 34, causing many to speculate he may jump-ship back to the UFC where he is a former (legit) world heavyweight champion.

This is less of a rumour and more of a matter of time, according to UFC president Dana White, who has confirmed Lesnar will definitely "Fight in the UFC again" one day. At this point, it's safe to assume WWE will be saying goodbye to their once-upon-a-time "Next big thing."

But, in an ironic twist of fate (no pun intended), there is now a very real possibility that he will be replaced by none other than 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor!

No, really...

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past twenty-four hours you'll have no-doubt heard of the carnage McGregor and his entourage wreaked at the UFC media day in New York.

The Irishman, backed by 20 or so of his cohorts, sneaked into the venue and proceeded to bombard the official UFC fighter bus with an array of weaponry, including a large steel dolly thrown by McGregor himself.

This dolly smashed one of the bus' windows and injured multiple members of the UFC roster inside, leading to a total of THREE FIGHTS being cancelled for this weekend's scheduled action.

Once the dust had finally settled, McGregor is said to have been arrested in New York this morning.

While this may have been some kind of sordid attempt to run-up media hype over a potential fight with fellow UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, it may have had the complete opposite effect, with many speculating that it may be the end of the line for McGregor's MMA career.

A very real possibility, despite his pull with the fans.

That being said, beyond MMA (and potentially boxing) the only other sensible major career move McGregor could make is a move to the world of professional wrestling. Specifically, the powerhouse that is WWE.

It would make complete sense, for a number of reasons.

A naturally theatrical performer, McGregor would have no problem getting under the skin of WWE fans and being able to hold the majority of them in the palm of his hand.

We saw with the build-up to Mayweather/McGregor that he has a natural flair (again, no pun intended) for drawing in a big crowd.

He's even cited Ric Flair as one of his influences.

Plus, the move from UFC to WWE is not an unfamiliar one.

Brock Lesnar returned to Vince McMahon's empire a few years ago and has been held in pretty high regard at the top of the card ever since.

Even breaking the Undertaker's legendary Wrestlemania streak in the process. A win which emphatically shocked the wrestling world.

A lot of this success has been due to not only Lesnar's previous experience in the ring, but also his ability to take advantage of his new "cage fighter" persona.

Any time he was in action the commentary from ringside was always designed to make Lesnar sound virtually invincible. Why can't it do the same for McGregor?

Also, there have been rumours of a WWE switch for McGregor for years now, going as far back as before the Mayweather fight.

During an interview on British television, former WWE champion and COO Triple H was very enthusiastic about the idea of McGregor making the career change:

However, 'The Game' makes it very clear that some of the negative comments aimed at WWE talent from McGregor in the past might make things difficult for him should he choose to leave MMA behind.

However, at this point, we've absolutely no idea if he even has a choice in the matter.

Yes, he could make the move to a different MMA brand should he end up banished from the UFC forever (again, at this point, VERY likely...)

Although, chances are none of the smaller MMA brands could even come close to a financial figure that could entice the man who made $100 million in his last fight. Given that Ronda Rousey was enticed into signing a WWE contract, can lightning really strike twice?

We are less than 24 hours removed from the UFC media day attack, so there's still a lot of information we don't know about McGregor's future.

But, if the majority of reports from experts and media outlets are to be believed, it looks as though this could be the end of the line for McGregor in the UFC.

The real question is: Will Vince McMahon pick up the phone?
