Lucha Underground News: Johnny Mundo praises rival Prince Puma
Ex-WWE wrestler talks about one of his greatest rivals
What's the story?
Johnny Mundo of Lucha Underground recently spoke with ESPN.com to talk about his greatest rival, Prince Puma, on the heels of the show's season three finale, which occurred this week on the El Rey Network. Johnny called Puma "one of the most talented people in the history of the business."
In case you didn't know...
Prince Puma wrestled in two matches on part four of Ultima Lucha Tres to conclude season three of the show this week. He wrestled Johnny Mundo in a title vs. career match and came out victorious, but then Pentagon Dark cashed in his Gift Of The Gods Championship.
Lucha Underground Boss Dario Cueto made it a loser leaves Lucha Underground match with Pentagon Dark coming out victorious. Even though the episode just aired this week, the season three finale was recorded on June 26, 2016.
The heart of the matter
Mundo elaborated on his high praise for Prince Puma. Take a look at his quote below from ESPN.com:
"He's so ridiculously talented. When you're in the ring with someone like him, that means that anything is possible. I mean, I could pretty much do anything I want to, so you're dealing with two ridiculously talented performers who are gunning to steal the show, who both have a chip on their shoulder, who both have something to prove."
He also mentioned that one of the reasons why he left the WWE was to find new challenges, and Puma provided that for him. Johnny said that being in the ring with Puma forced him to "level up and rise to the top of his game."
With Mundo in Impact Wrestling as Johnny Impact and the prospects of Ricochet signing with NXT, it may be a while before these two get the opportunity to continue was an amazing rivalry.
It is unknown what is next for Ricochet now that he has put the Prince Puma character to rest for good. Many speculate that he will be heading to NXT very soon, but Ricochet made it known that as soon as season three of Lucha Underground ended the clock started ticking.
In my honest opinion, the initial clashes of Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo put Lucha Underground on the map and drew a lot more eyes on the product. The hardcore fans knew Puma, the WWE fans knew Mundo and those two worlds collided in amazing fashion.
I fully expect Ricochet to head to NXT and a selfish part of me wants John Morrison to make a return to the company sometime down the road, but that is less likely to happen.
