Sexy Star © vs. Johnny Mundo (Lucha Underground Championship match)
After one of the best matches in recent memory came the much-hyped main event for the topmost prize. Johnny Mundo handed over his Gift Of Gods Championship before the match kicked off. The much-awaited bout began with some classic chain wrestling. The sequence ended with Mundo hitting a curb stomp on the champion.
He wore Star down with some kicks and locked in the LaBell lock, but Star wriggled her to the ropes to break the hold. Some vicious ground and pound followed that saw Mundo punish Star with nasty elbows. Mundo wasn’t content as he set Star in the Tree of Woe position and unleashed a barrage of kicks to her abdomen.
Mundo shot Star’s brief attempt to make a comeback and continued to wear her down. She finally created separation when she rolled out of ‘The End Of The World’. Star gathered steam as she hit Mundo with a couple of basement dropkicks, followed by the x-factor and suplex for the two count. Mundo used a classic trick out of the heel book with a thumb to the eye to shift the tide in his favour again.
Mundo resumed the onslaught on Star with a sit-out neck breaker followed by a chin lock. Star caught Mundo by surprise with a sunset flip that yielded her a close fall. She took Mundo down with her trademark Hurricanrana and floored him with a sweet backstabber for another near fall.
Star then went on to taunt Mundo to fight like a man. Mundo obliged and took the champion down with a Russian leg sweep. Star didn’t let Mundo build on the advantage as she tripped up and delivered a double foot stomp. Star and Mundo take the fight to the apron with Mundo hyper extending her arm. After a brutal stomping session for Mundo on Star, the challenger started to showboat. It eventually led to his undoing as Star pushed him to the floor and unleashed a cannon ball.
An epic brawl kicked off on the outside with Mundo snatching crutch off a fan’s hand. Star took the crutch off Mundo’s and proceeded to hand it over to the woman who owned it. In a shocking turn of events, the woman struck Star with brass knuckles. Matt Stryker described the woman with a wig and a sexy star mask as the creepy stalker. Mundo took advantage and picked up the lifeless body of Star and pushed her into the ring.
He executed ‘The End Of Days’ and went for the pinfall. 1-2-3! And just like that, Johnny Mundo became the new Lucha Underground Champion and a Triple Crown Champion in the process.
The woman who attacked Star was revealed to be World Underground member Taya, who got into the ring with other WU members to celebrate Johnny Mundo championship victory to close out the show.
Result: Johnny Mundo def. Sexy Star via pinfall to become the new Lucha Underground Champion
