AJ Styles is a fan favourite despite portraying a ‘heel’ character at present

WWE Champion AJ Styles recently appeared on WWE Hall of Famer Booker T’s podcast, Heated Conversations with Booker T. He spoke about a number of topics including the possibility of him taking on the legendary Shawn Michaels, being the champion and the popularity he has garnered so far in the WWE.

On his dream match against ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels, Styles claimed that he was not the one to decide whether it would happen or not. According to him, it entirely depended on what the fans wanted and also on what Michaels thought about it. AJ Styles said:

“It’s not up to me to have those dream matches, it’s up to the WWE Universe to have those dream matches. Whatever they want, I want to deliver; and whether or not Shawn wants to do something like that, that’s up to him.

I totally respect who he is and what he has done for this business, so that is totally in his court.”

When asked about earning his opportunity to finally work with the WWE, ‘The Phenomenal One’ thanked Booker for acknowledging that he earned it. He admitted that it had been a blessing for him.

Styles was quoted as saying:

“Well, the fact that you said I earned it, means a lot. I don’t want anything given to me. I want to earn everything that I have gotten, that way they don’t say I didn’t have to work for it. Being here has certainly been a blessing.”

He further went on to talk about the WWE:

“You know, all the stories you’ve heard in the past, well, either they weren’t true or this place as changed because every expectation that I have had has gone above and beyond. I mean, this company is an amazing place to work,”

‘The Champ That Runs The Camp’ believes that there is no greater thing in the pro-wrestling world than becoming a WWE champion. Although he claimed that there was a lot of pressure in being associated with the world’s biggest wrestling promotion, he enjoyed such pressure as it keeps him active.

“I have been champion everywhere, but there is nothing even close as to being a WWE champion. It’s so worldwide, and everybody knows what WWE is.

So many times I had a belt, or a championship in other companies, and I was going through immigration, people would say, what did you do over there? My response would be that I was a wrestler. They would say, oh, you mean like the WWE?”

He continued by saying:

“Every time, so now, I say that I am with WWE. That’s huge, and the one thing that you have to do–day in and day out is deliver, and that’s pressure to be able to do that, but I enjoy that kind of pressure.

It keeps me active, and it keeps me young, to be honest with you.”

Styles also discussed the kind of popularity that has come with being a WWE performer and revealed the difficulties he faced going out in the public with his family. He explained that it is difficult to understand how big the WWE is until you start working with them.

The Phenomenal one concluded by talking about his life after becoming a WWE superstar:

“My wife knows better than to invite me somewhere where there are a bunch of kids around, because you’ll get swamped.

We recently went to my son’s parade in the city and I got swamped, so it’s totally different than anything I have ever been part of; it’s like nothing else I have ever been a part of. This is the WWE and you don’t realise how big it is until you get here.”
