Former WWE manager Dutch Mantell feels it's difficult for the company to get Aleister Black over. The star recently returned to the company after a stint with AEW.
Black returned to WWE on the May 2 episode of SmackDown. Since then, the star has been a prominent feature of the blue brand, competing every week. This Friday, Aleister was in action against LA Knight. However, the match ended in a DQ win for the Megastar after Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed attacked him.
During this week's episode of BroDown with host Mac Davis, Mantell revealed he was unsure about the allure around Aleister Black. The veteran manager didn't understand his character and questioned if he was a heel or babyface on WWE TV. He felt Black was one of those characters that could never get over with the fans despite anything the company tried.
"They're pushing, this is a guy, what's his name - Black? Aleister Black. Guys, I don't get it. I don't think you could get that guy over if you took him on a sixty-foot building and pushed him. And they pushed him for like at least five weeks. And when he goes to the ring, he's just there. What is he? A heel or a babyface? What is he or is he just there?" [From 8:25 onwards]
This week, Aleister Black got in the way of Rollins and his entourage after they cost him the match. However, Breakker was quick to act and planted him with a Spear.
It will be interesting to see if this exchange has some implications in the future.
