WWE News: Becky Lynch says WWE should sign Nicole Matthews

Nicole Matthews as the Shimmer Women’s wrestling champion

Smackdown Women’s champion Becky Lynch recently answered a question from a fan on Twitter. The fan had asked her about her opinion on the best women’s wrestler in the Indies that WWE should sign. Becky responded by tagging Nicole Matthews:

Becky Lynch’s endorsement of the Canadian Nicole Matthews only cements Nicole’s claim to the big leagues. It is worth noting that Nicole attributes Becky Lynch as one of her inspirations for getting into the wrestling business.

In an exclusive interview given to ArtofWrestling.cz in 2013, Nicole, when asked about what prompted her to get into wrestling, had stated the following:

When I graduated from high school, I decided to train. I had been wanting to do it for a few years, and continually going to ECCW shows as a fan and seeing amazing wrestlers like Aaron Idol, Rebecca Knox, Scotty Mac and Memphis Reigns really gave me that final push to do it.

Becky Lynch used to wrestle under the ‘Rebecca Knox’ name on the independent wrestling circuit before she signed up with the WWE. Another familiar name from Nicole’s list of inspirations is Aaron Idol, better known to the WWE Universe as Damien Sandow.

Nicole Matthews has been wrestling for over a decade now, having made her debut in February 2006, wrestling for the SuperGirls promotion where she scored victories over the likes of Nattie Neidhart (Currently wrestling as Natalya in the WWE) and Tenille Tayla (Known as Emma/Emmalina in the WWE).

She then went on to become the Shimmer Women’s champion, securing victories over wrestlers such as Madison Rayne, Cheerleader Melissa (Also known as Raesha Saeed in TNA) among others.

Nicole, after seeing Becky Lynch’s endorsement, tweeted out the following to her:

One of the brightest prospects in the Indie scene, Nicole is currently wrestling a full schedule of independent wrestling dates. If the WWE do decide to add to their ever-growing roster of female wrestlers, Nicole Matthews might very well be on that list. She’ll be a worthy addition to NXT or even the Women’s tournament.
