Gunther fulfilled his destiny at WWE SummerSlam, defeating Damian Priest to win the World Heavyweight Championship. The Ring General took to social media to send a one-word message following the title win.

The Austrian star has been booked very strongly since making his main roster debut a few years ago. He did not take long to win the Intercontinental Championship after call up to the main roster. He went on to hold the title for a record 666 days before dropping it to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40.

Gunther then went on to win the King of the Ring Tournament to earn an opportunity for the World Heavyweight Championship. He was able to capture the title at SummerSlam last night after a little help from Finn Balor. Following his first world title win on the main roster, the Ring General sent a one-word message on X (fka Twitter), in German which translates to 'world champion' in English.

Gunther commented on his controversial title win at WWE SummerSlam

Damian Priest was on the cusp of retaining the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. However, the Archer of Infamy faced a betrayal from his stable-mate, Finn Balor who put Gunther's foot on the bottom rope as he was about to get pinned. The Ring General was able to capitalize on the dissension to capture the gold.

While the 36-year-old's victory came on a controversial note, he stated that he was not ashamed of the manner in which he won the title, and the legacy of the World Heavyweight Championship now belonged to him. He also noted that if anyone had a problem they knew where to find him.

“Nothing’s tainted, no reservations. Nothing to be ashamed of. From this day forth, Monday Night Raw and the legacy of the World Heavyweight Championship belong to me. If anybody out there thinks I don’t deserve this, they know where to find me,” said the new champion.

WWE seemingly has huge plans in store for Gunther's title reign as he is reportedly set to collide with John Cena down the line. The Cenation Leader will be returning to action soon to embark upon his Farewell Tour.
