WWE News: Joey Styles fired from two more promotions over Trump comment

Styles fired from CHIKARA and Beyond Wrestling

ECW Legend Joey Styles who was let go from EVOLVE due to a tasteless comment directed towards EVOLVE ring announcer Joanna Rose during "EVOLVE 72" has now also been fired from two more wrestling promotions over it.

CHIKARA owner Mike Quackenbush announced through his blog that the promotion had terminated its’ ties with Joey Styles. Below is an excerpt from the post by Quackenbush announcing Styles's dismissal:

"Our mantra (at CHIKARA) is not about critical acclaim or pats on the back: We believe pro-wrestling should be fun. That’s why we make it for everyone. Effective today, we are terminating our relationship with Joey Styles.

Effective today, we are instituting a zero tolerance policy for misogynistic, racist, and/or homophobic speech, written or verbal, whether it’s directed toward our cast, our crew, or our patrons. This is the shape of CHIKARA."

Similarly, during an AMA session, Beyond Wrestling's Drew Cordeiro was asked by WeeklyWPodcast whether or not Styles is still employed with them to which he had replied:

"Despite his unprofessional behaviour I would like to extend him the professional courtesy of a phone call before making an announcement."

After an hour, Beyond Wrestling tweeted out the following:

This entire situation began after a segment that Styles had with Stokely Hathaway, EVOLVE World Champion Timothy Thatcher's manager. Styles said that even though he's been told not to make any political jokes, he was the one holding the microphone and therefore could.

Styles proceeded by complimenting ring announcer Joanna Rose's appearance and said that if the new President-Elect were at the event he would've "pulled her by the—" and said that the word he cut off is what he would use to describe Stokley Hathaway.

Several fans expressed displeasure at Styles' comments and he was fired almost immediately by WWN Vice-President and booker Gabe Sapolsky. Styles later apologised to everyone involved, left the event before it got over and refused to accept his payment.

After getting fired from the WWE, Styles started working on the Independent circuit and went on record saying that he wanted to be “The Voice of the Indies" . Styles in the past has called CHIKARA’s 2016 King of Trios tournament.

The video below contains footage from the Facebook Q&A Styles participated in, which eventually got him fired:
