A lot of WWE fans will echo this sentiment: LA Knight's United States Championship win at SummerSlam on August 3 was long overdue.

Out of obscurity like only he can, Knight got over and turned into the 'Megastar' after his breakout performance against the late Bray Wyatt between late 2022 to early 2023. He then went back to nothing but retained fan adoration throughout.

After lackluster creative bookings in the last year, LA Knight has finally found himself on the winning end of the spectrum with gold in his hands. Taking to Instagram, he looked back to a decade ago when he was released by WWE:

"August 1, 2014," wrote LA Knight, marking the date of his release. "August 3, 2024," he added, the night he won his first belt in World Wrestling Entertainment.

Knight's win over Logan Paul could be the end of their rivalry, but can also be the beginning of a lengthy rivalry. The two men self-admittedly hate each other, and Paul has disclosed his intentions to sue The Megastar for stealing and later vandalizing his PRIME truck.

LA Knight reflects on his US Title win at WWE SummerSlam

LA Knight, 41, had mentioned recently to Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes that he is not on the latter's level just yet, albeit there are good merchandise sales and love from fans.

During the SummerSlam post-show press conference, Knight was naturally ecstatic about the result of his match on the card. The Megastar agreed with the general sentiment that this was long overdue but also felt it was the right time. He responded to a section of the WWE Universe who felt his surge in popularity had died down by showing off the US Title:

"I’m just looking for this [title], so it doesn’t matter if it was Logan Paul, anybody else walking around with it," LA Knight said. "I want this, now I got it. But at this point, for me, I talked about 2023 being the foundation. 2024, now is the time to start building that legacy, start building that, we’ll call it the legend of LA Knight."

A few months ago, LA Knight candidly spoke about his run as Max Dupri in 2022. He genuinely thought that was it for him and WWE had plans to release him.
