Gunther recently captured his second WWE World Heavyweight Championship on RAW recently, taking down Jey Uso. Wrestling veteran Dr. Chris Featherstone thinks that this is a set up for the return of a legend.
The legend in question is Goldberg, who has been hinting at having a last match in the ring for quite some time now. Gunther himself also namedropped the Hall of Famer recently, and added to his previous interactions with Goldberg it seems more and more likely that the two are set to collide. Or so Dr. Chris Featherstone thinks.
Speaking on UnSKripted, the wrestling veteran had the following to say about Gunther's WWE title win and what's next for the champion.
"I think this is setting us up for Gunther-Goldberg at SummerSlam. I think that's what we're gonna get. Now there's a part of me that feels like that's the primary reason why we got the switch, the title change. Because it felt a bit abrupt to me. Like it just, like Jey Uso didn't really have an opportunity to really get his bearings, and you know it's only 5 weeks after he won, 6 weeks... So, he had a 6-week title reign?" [9:07 onwards]
It remains to be seen whether Goldberg will return to WWE anytime soon.
