The New Day is gearing up to celebrate a decade-long journey in WWE on next week's Monday Night RAW. Amid the ongoing tension within the faction, Xavier Woods made a shocking revelation that he was instructed to distance himself from Kofi Kingston before the group was formed.
Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods joined forces in the summer of 2014. The New Day made its televised debut on the November 28, 2014, edition of SmackDown with a unique, feel-good gimmick that initially received mixed reactions. The trio went on to hold multiple tag team championships over the next 10 years.
Meanwhile, the friction between Woods and Kingston seemingly reached its boiling point on this week's RAW. The two men were involved in an extremely heated backstage verbal altercation, taking shots at each other. That being said, Big E is reportedly slated to appear on the December 2 edition of the red brand for The New Day's 10th anniversary special segment.
Speaking on the latest edition of WWE Retrospective on the company's YouTube channel, Xavier Woods revealed that the promotion advised him to stay away from Kofi Kingston early in their careers due to their similarities.
"My entire WWE career [before The New Day formed], I've been told to stay away from Kofi [Kingston]. Not because he's bad, but because we're very similar. And so they [company] said, 'In wrestling, you got to carve out your own spot, and well, if Kofi's doing this, and we automatically see you and imagine that you're kind of a secondary Kofi, that's not gonna be good for you!''' he said.
The erstwhile King Woods added:
"So, I always stayed away from him, but I don't believe that to be true!" [From 03:25 to 03:44]

Wrestling analyst speculates The New Day's WWE future
As mentioned earlier, the strain between the former RAW Tag Team Champions signals a potential breakup of The New Day. Recently, analyst Peter Rosenberg shared his two cents on the heated storyline between Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston.
On his Cheap Heat podcast, Rosenberg predicted that The New Day would probably split at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14, 2024.
"We will get a big New Day explosion match at Saturday Night's Main Event, which is major. That's a great match for that. That's a perfect match for Saturday Night's Main Event; I love that," he said.
