WWE News: The Rock comments on his record breaking movie trailer
The Rock reacts to the unprecedented success of the trailer.
Earlier this week, fans of the ‘Fast & Furious’ movie were celebrating as the eighth installment of the franchise as it inched ever closer, with the trailer being released.
The official trailer of the film, now labeled ‘The Fate of the Furious’, has had the biggest debut ever, topping 139 million views in the opening 24 hours, overtaking the previous record holder; ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ The Rock has been delighted with the response and has expressed his happiness on Social media.
Following is the trailer:
Central to all of this pandemonium is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, the man who has transcended the squared circle to the silver screen, becoming the highest-paid actor in the world for 2016 in the process.
The trailer itself features Johnson’s character being released from prison with the goal of hunting down traitor Dom (played by Vin Diesel) who has turned on his former crew mates.
The Rock seems overjoyed at the film’s popularity and has taken to his own Instagram account to register his delight, citing that perhaps another record has been broken in the process. Read the full Instagram post below:
Cool stuff. You made our #FateOfTheFurious trailer debut the highest watched trailer of all time within a 24hr period. 139 million views. We also apparently broke a record of heart rates around the world spiked in women and men every time my face came on screen. Universal is still confirming the "Rock algorithm" on that one. Thanks guys. We made a good one. #F8 #Hobbs #BeatingAssesLikeACherokeeDrum APRIL 14th.
The ‘Fast and the Furious’ series is an American franchise that centres heavily around the practice of illegal street racing and the use of modified muscle cars to complete death-defying heists.
The Rock first debuted in the fifth instalment – Fast 5 – where he received high praise for his portrayal of Luke Hobbs, a DSS agent pursuing the crew for arrest. He has subsequently reprised his role in all of the following films.
‘The Fate of the Furious’ – confirmed for an April 14th release date – has a lot to live up to, with its predecessor in the series, Furious 7, being the first of the films to gross over $1 billion at the box office. It will be interesting to see, therefore, if this latest outing will live up to the hype that the record-setting trailer has instigated.
