Gunther regained the World Heavyweight Championship on last week's Monday Night RAW, dethroning Jey Uso after the former champion passed out. He previously lost the title to The Yeet Man, who tapped out The Ring General at WrestleMania 41.
For his first title defense in his second reign, Gunther will face Goldberg, who, after failing to dethrone Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in 2022, will have another shot at winning a WWE World Title.

Goldberg is a former two-time Universal Champion. His last reign as a World Champion was back in 2020 when he defeated The Fiend to become a two-time Universal Champion.
The 58-year-old veteran has mostly been involved in World Championship matches in his latest WWE in-ring outings, except his No Holds Barred Falls Count Anywhere Match against Bobby Lashley at Crown Jewel 2021.
