Sgt. Slaughter is one of WWE's greatest heels

WWE legend Sgt. Slaughter recently spoke about the reasons behind copyrighting "Cobra Clutch," saying he wanted to protect the name for future use.

Slaughter is often considered one of the most influential heels in wrestling history. His Iraqi sympathizer character, under which he won the WWE Championship and even headlined WrestleMania 7 with Hulk Hogan, is still fresh in fans' memories. Sgt. Slaughter's finisher, the Cobra Clutch, is also one of the most recognizable finishing maneuvers in wrestling, and is still used by many performers.

In a chat with Bill Apter of Sportskeeda Wrestling, Slaughter stated that he had no opposition to anyone using the Cobra Clutch until they were executing it right. The WWE Hall of Famer also revealed that the sole reason why he was copyrighting "Cobra Clutch" was to ensure the brand was protected for long-term purposes.

"She's (Lacey Evans) welcome to use the Cobra Clutch as long as she knows how to use it correctly. I'm just protecting the name because of all the things that I have to do with my Cobra Clutch Challenge Club, and I just wanted to protect it so that it's all done right. Anybody can use the Cobra Clutch, you just gotta do it right," said Sgt. Slaughter. [0:26 - 0:52]

WWE legend Sgt. Slaughter on Vince McMahon asking a favor.

In a previous chat with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Slaughter shared details about the time when his former boss, Vince McMahon, asked him to do a favor. Sgt. Slaughter added that during WrestleMania 17, where he was one of the participants in the Battle Royal, McMahon changed the plans, and asked him to help The Iron Shiek win, as the latter was unable to go over the top rope.

"As we went out to the ring, and I was being announced, Vince grabbed me and said, 'We got a little problem. I need you to do me a favor.' I said, 'What is it?' and he said, 'Can you let Khosrow [win]? He [Khosrow] can't get over the top rope. They can't throw him over the top rope.' He said, 'Do him a favor,' so I did him a favor," Slaughter stated.

Sgt. Slaughter was inducted into the coveted WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 by the late great Pat Patterson in honor of celebrating his career.
